"Snohomish County Public Works and IMCO General Construction (IMCO) received the 2015 Build Washington Construction Excellence award in the heavy industrial category from the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Washington. The award recognizes the joint work on State Route 530 (SR 530) Incident Debris Removal Project and was presented on May 14 at the awards dinner at the Museum of Flight in Seattle.

“This project focused on making the area more stable in the removal of the debris, requiring the massive coordination of work teams and keeping the public informed while exercising respect and dignity in the recovery of personal property,” said Owen Carter, Snohomish County Public Works Deputy Director. “The determination and resilience necessary to take on this venture was apparent in everyone. IMCO definitely earned this award in the way they tirelessly and thoughtfully worked in recovering more than 1,000 pieces of personal belongings, photos, and documents. They also completed the work six days earlier than contracted and $5.2 million under budget.”

Snohomish County began the debris removal project in mid-June 2014, three months after the SR 530 landslide. IMCO was the major project contractor tasked with removing man-made items while leaving native materials on site in a safe, stable and free draining condition. 80 acres of private and public property were covered in approximately 200,000 cubic yards of material and debris that included homes, vehicles, personal belongings, and possible human remains. As part of this project, the county also contracted with AECOM to provide archaeologists and spotters and URS to provide documentation and inspection staff to work alongside IMCO equipment operators to ensure respectful recovery of human remains and personal property. By mid-September 2014, three months later, Snohomish County and IMCO successfully completed the project."
