Holden Mine Water Treatment Plant Operations & Maintenance

Continuous operation of water treatment facility produces billions of gallons of clean water for environmental remediation

Upon the successful completion of a new water treatment facility, IMCO Construction was hired to manage and operate the new facility for Rio Tinto. Holden Mine is a remote location near Holden Village, accessible by ferry, followed by a trek up a forrest service roadway. The Holden water treatment plant is producing clean, treated water from the mine, surface runoff, and groundwater. The treated water meets all state drinking water and aquatic life standards.

This project and partnership has resulted in fish living in Copper and Railroad Creeks again, and the indigenous plants thriving, critical to ensuring the health of the local ecosystem near Lake Chelan and the surrounding communities. The water treatment plant is continuously being improved through small upgrades by the IMCO Construction team at Holden. IMCO’s team has been operating the plant 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, for Rio Tinto since 2016. The plant discharges approximately 378 gallons of treated water per minute into Railroad Creek.
