ANACORTES WTP PROJECT IN FULL SWING (THE DIRT)

Event Date:
Wednesday, June 1, 2011 - 12:00am

As summer ramps up, so does work at the Anacortes Water Treatment Plant project.

As summer ramps up, so does work at the Anacortes Water Treatment Plant project.  Crews have driven nearly all of the 570 piling required for the pump station, water treatment building, chemical facility, and storage tanks. Crews have also installed 1,700 lineal feet of pipe and moved 30,000 cubic yards of material in preparation for the construction of the new facility.

The first major concrete pour was in late June for the foundation of the fresh water storage tank building.
1,000 of the 14,000 cubic yards of concrete estimated to build this project have been poured. IMCO crews began placing rebar and formwork in preparation for pouring concrete at the treatment facility building in early July.

By the end of this month a tower crane will arrive onsite; a first for IMCO. The tower crane will provide the safest way to move building materials from the ground down to the treatment facility building, which sits in a 30-foot deep excavation.

The Anacortes WTP, located along the Skagit River in Mt. Vernon, serves the City of Anacortes, the Shell and Tesoro refineries, the lumber mill adjacent to SR 20 between Burlington and Anacortes and Whidbey Island. The existing plant will stay in service until the new plant is operational. IMCO will be increasing onsite craftspeople from 26 to about 40 within the next month.
