Happy Valley Battery Energy Storage System Achieves Key Milestones
With 128 concrete foundations completed on an accelerated schedule, the team now shifts focus to the next phase of substation improvements on this power storage project

The final week of pouring concrete at the Happy Valley project was in mid-October. The team poured 1,770 yards in just over a month. The major milestone of completing 128 concrete foundations was a great team effort and an illustration of the team’s incredible attitude. An accelerated pouring schedule was necessary, because IMCO did not control the delivery timing of the owner-supplied battery equipment, which was delivered in October. This accelerated schedule also required the electrical subcontractor, Vale, to complete all underground conduits for the project early.
As of November 1st, 12 million pounds of equipment will have been received and set for this contract. The remaining work involves finishing and grading the roadway around the batteries and revising the southern entrance to provide better access.
This project team was comprised of many new team members, including ten skilled concrete carpenters hired for this project.
