Albeni Falls Dam Spillway Modifications

Project Summary

This contract modified the Albeni Falls Hydroelectric Dam for the Army Corps of Engineers. The majority of construction was at the spillway crest, which is underwater. IMCO utilized a dewatering setup in between the upstream and downstream spillway slots to create a coffer cell. Air piping was suspended under the spillway deck for the length of the dam to supply air to the diffusers.

This project involved removing ten spillway gates with cranes and replacing the seals on the gates with an anti-freeze bulb so they are operable in winter weather. IMCO crews installed a spray system to spray deicer on the gears so they do not lock up and are operable in winter. The contract included refurbishing the bubbler system including new diffusers, new piping, and electrical work.
